Understanding the ways to minimise greenhouse gas emissions and how to adapt to a changing climate requires the use of different tools. While guidance exists for climate change in Strategic Environmental Assessment (SEA) and Sustainability Assessment (SA), there is still a need to expand it to Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) at project level. Furthermore, its application in developing countries is still limited. Is there need to develop more tools or should we focus on the application of available tools to strengthen assessment on mitigation and adaptation in EIA and SEA? We will explore these possibilities and share experiences on the use of environmental management tools for both adaptation and mitigation in policies, plans and programmes and individual projects.
