The climate change debate has primarily focused on adaptation rather than mitigation for Africa. In fact, the contribution of Africa to Global GHG emissions has been small whereas the African continent has been identified to be the worst affected by the impacts from climate change. On the other hand, Africa needs to develop economically to meet its priorities in terms of poverty alleviation and sustainable development. However, in order to maintain economic competitiveness in a global economy, Africa should adopt a cleaner energy path and move towards low carbon development.
Clean Energy Technologies are seen as a potential option to cut back fossil fuels consumption and reduce CO2 emissions.
What are the clean energy technologies that would suit mitigation potentials in the context of Africa? How can Africa harness cleaner energy technologies to move towards a low carbon economy? What are the opportunities and the challenges?
We welcome your contributions and look forward to a relevant and engaging discussion.
