Biodiversity GIS (BGIS) South Africa
The Biodiversity GIS (BGIS) unit is responsible for the management of the South African National Biodiversity Institute's (SANBI) spatial biodiversity planning information. The unit is also responsible for the implementation of the Cape Action for People and Environment's (C.A.P.E.) spatial information management objectives. The BGIS unit's primary objective is to provide easy access to spatial biodiversity planning information thereby facilitating its use in biodiversity planning and decision-making across the landscape.
The BGIS unit manages spatial biodiversity planning information and promotes the use thereof by making it easily accessible, and freely available on its website. The unit also provides the following services:
- GIS, information management and web mapping training.
- Data and information analysis, interpretation and application.
